We had fun at Fiber Fest.

Yup, Thsi weekend was the Finger-lakes Fiber Fest, in Hemlock NY.  I went on saturday with the Family, and we had lots of fun.

I was pretty good, and only came home with some fiber for a swap, just a little bit for me, a pound of raw alpaca, and a brand new BOSWORTH SPINDLE!

my new Bossie.

A side view:

see the pretty silk?

see the pretty silk?

For reference, there is about 1 ounce of silk there.  The silk came from The Spinning Bunny, and I highly recommend them.  lovely stuff.

The kids had lots of fun too.  Beeba1 seems to have gotten in all the pics, though, and poor Beeba 2 was left out.  Possibly because he was all about running around and touching, while she was mostly happy to ride in the stroller.

First, he had to say Hi to the Alpacas.

Beeba 1 had to say Hi.

Then he got to PET the llama!

He saw Sheep Getting sheared.

9-21 011

And tried to feed the sheep.

9-21 015

And Finally, he got to HOLD an Angora Bunny!   SOFT!

9-21 018

Yup, that big white Fluff ball is a bunny.  Don’t ya just want one?  I kind of do.  But… NO PETS around here for a while… not even gorgeous fiber producing ones.

I need to share some excitement!

And I just know this is the place to share it.

A while back, I entered into the “I made it on my Schacht” 4oth Anniversay contest.  I entered with This yarn:

Up Close

Up Close

Angelfish on BFL

Angelfish on BFL

It is 398 Yards of BFL 2 ply yarn, about 3.5 ounces, about a fingering weight yarn.

Well, yesterday I heard back.

I AM A FINALIST!

Yup, you heard it right.  That means I have a chance to win!  I am so excited!

Now I just need Everybody to cross your fingers for me…   because there are lots of lovely lovely yarns that I am competing against.

By my understanding, there are a total of 80 finalists, spanning 4 categories, so in my category (novice spinning) there should be about 20 finalists.    Oh, thats not a terrible odds.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!

a miniature Train Conductor- my daughter

So Beeba 1 has an ongoing love affair with trains.  He loves them.  Especially Thomas.  He loves the new Dinosuar Train show on PBS…

He has this whole costume, its his train conductor stuff, so he can be the conductor.

But… His sister (she is 16 months old) is currently having a love affair with Hats.  So here she is being the miniature train conductor:

My Little Conductor

Here she is again

Here she is again...

Isn't she cute?

Isn't she cute?

I also have to mention that she is growing up so fast.  is very vocal and while she does not say a million words, she has started using simple sentences with the words she does know.  (mostly “I want ___”, but you know, thats still impressive. )

Ok, that’s enough of the Proud mama showing off for today.  Back to your regular programming. :)

So the Indie Dyers Coop stocked yesterday…

and nothing blew up, thats a good sign, right?

Really, we made a few sales, had lots of peepers, but not as many sales… I think its the Economy.  And its ok.  Cause we’re not going anywhere, and we will stick it out.

All the big shops, the ones who sell out on their stocking days, well, they had to start out with making a few sales too.

Ultimately, though, you have just got to love the new look, and the great job our vendors did!  We had more variety of fibers and yarns in the shop than we have had in a long time, and I think that over time, as people find themselves with money, they will be more likely to come over and shop.  Not to mention friday is payday for lots of people… so who is to say that we won’t have a tone of sales then, right?

I solda few things myself, and I think that its a success.  very few sellers can say that they sell out every time, so I am not aiming for that.  I am happy with a few sales.  For now.  Eventually, I think the indie dyers could take over the world.  The fiber world, that is.  I mean, how could we not?  we have a dozen very talented artists, including a schacht dealer, a strauch dealer, and louet dealer… what more do we need?  Between us, we have everything it takes to run a very successful business.

and we will.

So check us out now, buy a few things… and when we get really big and take over the fiber world, you can say, “I shopped with them when…”

Giving the blog a facelift…

I think it was due one, don’t you? What do you think?

Meantime, I am having one problem with the blog… I can’t add new links to my links lists (you know, friends blogs, etc.)  Everytime I try, it tells me I do not have permissions to access the page?  very frustrating.  I would love any ideas on a solution to that.

I’ve been working on a custom blending job for a fellow raveler this week.  She had some Llama fiber she wanted blended with a commercial blend of Merino and alpaca.  Ooh, these are soft fibers.  The batts are coming out really nicely.  I love them.  Best part is, I get to keep some of the fiber, so I can make some for me, too.  yay.  They are simple brown, but you know what?  Sometimes spinning is about texture rather than about color.

Oh, and I made this Cake in a cup recipe today.  Seriously, if you have not tried this, YOU MUST TRY THIS.  This is the yummiest, quickest recipe for chocolate cake (FROM SCRATCH) that I have ever had.  soo good, and between prep time and cooking time, it literally takes 5 minutes.  seriously.  in the time it takes you to decide waht to have for a snack, you could have a nice, piping hot chocolate cake.  how awesom?  Top it with some whipped cream, and ooh… luscious!

So, here’s the recipe:

MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG cake

1 Coffee Mug
4 tablespoons flour(that’s plain flour, not self-rising)
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
Small splash of vanilla

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well . Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed!

To any readers i may have, TTFN!  I’ll be back in a few days, with new fibers, and fun yarns!

Oh, and don’t forget, the Indie Dyers Coop is stocking again on Tuesday!  The biggest stocking ever, so truly, don’t miss it!  Oh, and we have a whole new look, and a bunch of new vendors, so check it out!
