A Sale and a Contest!

So, tomorrow it is April.  That means a few things.  First, it means my big Boy is almost 4 years old!  Hard to believe . He was such a peanut as a baby.

The Day Beeba 1 came home from the hospital.

But, here he is this past Halloween with his little sister (who will be 2 in may… yikes!)

We had a thomas the train and a little ladybug. Geez they got big.

Anyway… April means other things too.  It means the weather is warming up, and it means April Fool’s day.  it also means I am all the more close to having the next baby.  And these last two things are where this post is heading.

So, the SALE.

Tomorrow only, on April 1, I am offering a sale at my Etsy Shop.  Mention in your purchase notes April Fool’s, and I will give you a random discount between 10%-20% off from your purchase (not including shipping) which will be refunded via paypal.  I will be using Random.org to determine the discount, so that means that everyone has as much chance at the 20% as the 10%. I kind of thought it was a fun idea.

Then, the CONTEST.

Being that as of this week, I am 32+ weeks pregnant… I though maybe we could play a little game.  The only requirement to this game is that you are a member of my ravelry group (its not hard to join, go here).

Now, once you have joined the ravelry group, Comment either there in the thread I will create for this contest, and tell me these things:

1. Do you think I will have a boy, or a girl, this time? (I have one of each right now)

2. What day and time do you think baby will be born? (I am due on May 23, and for reference, I went a little late with my DS, and a week late with DD.)

That’s it.  Join the group and post your answers to those questions.  the person (or persons, if there are a couple that are super close and I am feeling generous when the time comes) will win a prize… the winner may tell me preferences as to yarn, fiber, or stitch markers, and general color preferences, but I will choose something special.  I promise that the value of the prize will be no less than $15.

I will say that the winner should expect to be patient, however, since I will be making a prize specially for that person, and will have a brand new baby, it will probably take longer than usual to get it sent out.

This Contest will run from now till the end of April.  I hope to see lots of contestants.  And hey, once you are a member of the group, why not stick around and chat a bit?

She’s He-ere! (My CPW)

Yup, She arrived on Friday Evening, not too long after I posted my Photo Friday entry.  Of course that means that the pictures I took Friday and Saturday will be in the post today, though.

So it happened like this.  Friday night, we had just sat down to eat dinner, and what should we hear but a knock on the door?  So, I went to see who could possibly be at the door, and just as I got there, the UPS man practically THREW this box at the porch.

Well, I knew my wheel was coming, but seriously, this box did not look like it could possibly hold it… the box looked too small.  Looking small or not, though, I knew that it must be the wheel, and began praying that UPS had not managed to damage the poor baby.

So, once the box was opened, I immediately assembled my new CPW.  Boy was she dirty… I got my hands all grungy just putting her together.

Saturday, We took her out to the yard for a bath, since it was so nice and warm out there.  I had planned to start with just the soap and water route.  But, after giving her a once over, I realized that while I now could avoid grunge hands from touching her, she was still too dirty to really be happy.

After a soap and water bath, she was still all sad looking... she wants to be shiny so badly...

So, we pulled out the heavy guns… Denatured alcohol.  This liquid is not for human consumption, but for wheel consumption.  It is a Shellac Thinner, and we are using it to help remove and even out the old shellac finish that is on the wheel.

We haven’t gotten too far yet, but you can see the difference in what we have done from what we haven’t.

The Hubby worked on the wheel, starting with the rim. You can see the difference in color... isn't it pretty?

I worked on the Mother of all and the maidens… which were caked in ucky black looking grease… well, I can’t seem to get that picture to upload right now… I think I need a new wireless router, it keeps kicking off.

Anyway, we did not get too far, since the kids woke up and wanted their dinner.  But we DID get progress made, and that is good.  And now, any time there is nice warm sunny weather, all I want to be doing is be outside working on the wheel.  I am forcing myself to work on other things too, of course… fiber and yarny stuff, family stuff, etc.  But it is a struggle… I can’t wait to see the wheel finished.

After her bath is complete, we will be applying a new finish of Boiled Linseed Oil, which is a traditional simple finish for these wheels.  And she will shine.

She is also due to get new hooks and a new bobbin in the near future.  As soon as I can afford to do it.

And she still needs a name.  The hubby thinks her name should be Aurora, for the princess in sleeping beauty, and keeps insisting on it.  But I want something that is a little french, and I HATE thinking that he might bully me into using a name from Disney’s movie… which really, has nothing to do with this wheel at all, after all.

So thats it for now.  I’m off to see what other productive stuff I can work on this afternoon… and with luck, Beeba 1 will stay in his room for naptime for once, rather than coming down to torture me… but not likely.

We had fun at Fiber Fest.

Yup, Thsi weekend was the Finger-lakes Fiber Fest, in Hemlock NY.  I went on saturday with the Family, and we had lots of fun.

I was pretty good, and only came home with some fiber for a swap, just a little bit for me, a pound of raw alpaca, and a brand new BOSWORTH SPINDLE!

my new Bossie.

A side view:

see the pretty silk?

For reference, there is about 1 ounce of silk there.  The silk came from The Spinning Bunny, and I highly recommend them.  lovely stuff.

The kids had lots of fun too.  Beeba1 seems to have gotten in all the pics, though, and poor Beeba 2 was left out.  Possibly because he was all about running around and touching, while she was mostly happy to ride in the stroller.

First, he had to say Hi to the Alpacas.

Beeba 1 had to say Hi.

Then he got to PET the llama!

He saw Sheep Getting sheared.

And tried to feed the sheep.

And Finally, he got to HOLD an Angora Bunny!   SOFT!

Yup, that big white Fluff ball is a bunny.  Don’t ya just want one?  I kind of do.  But… NO PETS around here for a while… not even gorgeous fiber producing ones.

a miniature Train Conductor- my daughter

So Beeba 1 has an ongoing love affair with trains.  He loves them.  Especially Thomas.  He loves the new Dinosuar Train show on PBS…

He has this whole costume, its his train conductor stuff, so he can be the conductor.

But… His sister (she is 16 months old) is currently having a love affair with Hats.  So here she is being the miniature train conductor:

Here she is again

Here she is again...

Isn't she cute?

I also have to mention that she is growing up so fast.  is very vocal and while she does not say a million words, she has started using simple sentences with the words she does know.  (mostly “I want ___”, but you know, thats still impressive. )

Ok, that’s enough of the Proud mama showing off for today.  Back to your regular programming. :)

Yummy Yarns and a new Toy Coming!

So, I promised further updates, and here I am. :)

First, I have to share some exciting news!  I ordered my drum carder this past weekend (finally) and so very soon, I will be adding to my line of products some luscious full sized batts.  I’ll show off the new carder when it gets here, maybe I’ll even make a video of a carding session. :)

We went to a local event here this weekend too, with the kids.  It is called “Strong Kids, Safe Kids” and it is a safety oriented event, held annually here.  They offer free ID cards for the kids, and have lots of fun safety and learning activities oriented towards kids of all ages.

The kids had lots of fun.

On the crafty side of things, I have a bunch of pretty new yarns to share, too.  Yes, some will be in the shop, but I haven’t decided on all of them… I kind of love them.
