I’ve been a little derelict…

…at least in term of my fibery schedule.  I HAVE been productive though, and crafty too.  Just not Fibery.

This weekend, I bought myself a netbook.  you know, those cute little miniature laptops?  We really were getting to a point where we needed to have 2 computers in the house again (after we replaced the old laptop last summer and the old desktop died a week later, we have just been sharing one), But we did not really need another suped up computer.  The big Desktop we have is quite nice, complete with photoshop, and fast with a big screen to boot.  But I had to stop using my cell phone as my regular browsing tool when DH was home.

So, when a little extra money appeared suddenly (really, a little, not much, lol)  I did all sorts of research, and I found that in general, a good netbook was less expensive than a full sized laptop that would perform about the same… and the netbooks have a far longer battery life.  Mine has up to 11 hours battery life, depending how I use it.  Wowza!  I got an Asus Eee 1005PED.  In RED.  Pretty. :)

So, of course, with a new computer, and a small one at that, I needed a case of some sort for it.  Only, I absolutely hated the cases at the store, and no way did I want to spend $20 additional bucks on one, especially after spending all that money on the computer.  I knew I could do better than that.  plus, have you seen the cases they sell for these little guys?  they are slipcovers, nothing more.  and no place for accessories, like mouse, thumb drive, etc.

So Monday morning, I started thinking.  I looked through my fabric drawer, and found the PERFECT fabric.  It was origianlly meant to be used for a diaper bag, back when I was making those for sale, and when I destashed fabrics, I just could not bear to give it up.  But it was much better suited for this.  That afternoon, while the kids were sleeping, instead of spinning yarn, I pulled out the one sewing machine I kept when I destashed my others, and I spent the afternoon designing and creating a custom fit netbook case.  (Incidently, this, I MIGHT be convinced to make for sale at some point… I realized that of the netbooks out there, the Asus is one of the bigger ones, because of its battery, so that means that any other netbook up to a 10.2″ screen should easily fit in it too.  Or maybe I should just write up the pattern and sell that?)

My netbook case has a pocket on the front for accessories, and in future, I might put a seam in the center to divide to 2 pockets, but all in all, it is really very nice.  it closes with a flap closure and a single poly resin snap.

yes, I will show pictures soon.  Be patient.

So yesterday, I was still in a sewing mood.  I have 2 purses I have been meaning to make.  One for me, and one for my mom.  (It will be her mothers day gift, but its not a surprise)  I decided that the Fabric from the netbook case (of which I still had quite a bit… remember, it was originally to be a diaper bag) would make the absolute perfect purse for me.  (I think I love purses, lol.  DH says I have too many… I only have 3?)

The Purse, I made from the Run Mama Run Pattern by Ditty Pop.  Unfortunately, their store is inactive for now, so you can’t run out and buy the pattern when you see this.  I made only one modification… I added 2 additional pockets, one on the outside of the bag, and one on the inside, with a seam up the center of the inside pocket to divide further.

Now, would you like to see my creations?  I know you would.

Both bags together... Don't you love the fabric?

The netbook Case fits right inside of the RMR bag! Coolness!

And the inside without the netbook case...

You know the best part of all this?  My knitting project also fits right in the purse. (yup, the big baby blanket… This is a big purse)

Yes, I still need to make myself a new wallet.  The one in there actually goes to my old purse.  I still use that one sometimes too… it matches my baby carrier.  but this purse is more grown up… and pretty. And it needs a matching wallet.  maybe a glasses case, in case I ever get to ordering a pair of sunglasses…

Now… I am off to try and do something else productive… I still have a while before the kids will wake up.  And later, I will get to show off my newest purse some more, when I bring it to my knitting night.  So hey!  Its a good day!

He wants to go to school… and the Mother’s Day Gift

And If that’s what will get him to potty train… well, I planned for him to go to school eventually.

We took a walk down to the “School” (daycare/preschool) that he might attend in the fall. Yes, walking distance, about 3 blocks from home. we got to look in the classrooms, and we got to meet the ladies who would be his teachers. Beeba 1 got to meet a couple of the kids who would be in his class.

The facility is not bad, it is close, and there are lots of play things both in and out of the building, and nice well-enclosed play areas for outside. They are far better equipped than the preschool I worked at before he was born.

The Curriculum sounds appropriate to his age, and assuming we can afford it, he could go for mornings only, and come home either before or after lunch, to nap here.

Now to wait and find out how much it will cost. We are thinking he would start in the fall, like a regular school year, and he will get a taste of “school” on a regular basis. I hope it turns out to be something we can afford. I think it would be good for him.

He would spend 1 yaer with the 3 year olds, and the next year would be the 4 year old/pre-k room. I am a strong proponent of being home with your kids if you can, but having worked in a preschool, I also know how much the structure and diversity can be positive for children. so if he does not go this fall, he for sure will go the next. but I think I need him to go this fall…

and then… if he goes to school in the fall, we can think (think, mind you, not automatically do) about another child.

On another note, the Mothers day Gift I made for my mom.  Can you tell I love her?  This is the Jenny Bag, from Wired Up Designs Jenny bag pattern, with a matching Wallet from the Lovely Lady Pattern, also from Wired Up designs.  I love these patterns!

Three Year Olds are weird!

Mine is, anyways.  I love him dearly, of course, but he comes up with the weirdest things to say.

Apparently, I check my email too often, because he told me today that he needed to email me, and proceeded to hand me an old receipt he’d been playing with.  I asked him what he thought an email was, and he told me the receipt was email.

Also, lately, I must be working too much, because his favorite line curently, if I want him to change gears and do something, is “not this minute, I am working” or “I need to work first”. and, “I’m trying to work!”

So, apparently, I need to spend more playtime with the kids, lol.

On the front of my personal projects, I finished a new Jenny Bag… this one is for my mom.  She picked out and bought the materials, and I did the work for a mothers day gift.  I have to say, it looks really cool… when I can get outside for pics (its been cold and wet here) I’ll have to take some.  I almost wish she didn’t know about the purse, I’d be tempted to keep it.

Isn’t it pretty?

And here is the matched set, my new purse with the matching Wallet:

Please ignore the scrappy mess on my floor. It gets that way when I am crafting… I just throw things over the side of the desk as I work… I really need a new trash can for that space…

What I’m working on…

Kind of. Alright, so its one thing I AM working on, and one thing I just finished.

So, what I am working on, aside from my socks, and a million other projects, this is my newest project:

Lace Yarn

Yes, Its just yarn atm. I cast on, but with a 3 stitch cast on, it doesn’t look like much. this is the yarn for my Blue Jeans Lace Leaf Shawl. it is very fine, and I think maybe I am crazy, xause even for lace, this is LACE. it is as fine as my very finest handspun, only I can’t seem tom make handspun in this qualntity in this fineness… I get bored way too fast. hence buying the yarn this time. Plus it was on sale.

And the project I finished, My Jenny Bag. I love this pattern. and best yet, the designer is a friend from one of my message boards. Can’t beat supporting your friends and getting something cool too.

Jenny Bag

Ok, so the fabric is very bright. But it matches my Mei Tei, and I really love it right now. I know, I’ll probably get tired of the print eventually, but that’s the great thing about making things… you can always make another! I also made a matching wallet, from another of the same designer’s patterns, and am debating making the sunglass case that comes with this pattern. I have the leftover fabric, and I might. I also added ties to the purse so that I can close it. it is reversable, by the way, so if I want somethign a little less loud, I can also have a plain black purse at the spur of the moment. cool, huh?
