Don’t know if I’ll keep it up, but why not try it?

We had fun at Fiber Fest.
Sep 21
Yup, Thsi weekend was the Finger-lakes Fiber Fest, in Hemlock NY. I went on saturday with the Family, and we had lots of fun.
I was pretty good, and only came home with some fiber for a swap, just a little bit for me, a pound of raw alpaca, and a brand new BOSWORTH SPINDLE!
A side view:
For reference, there is about 1 ounce of silk there. The silk came from The Spinning Bunny, and I highly recommend them. lovely stuff.
The kids had lots of fun too. Beeba1 seems to have gotten in all the pics, though, and poor Beeba 2 was left out. Possibly because he was all about running around and touching, while she was mostly happy to ride in the stroller.
First, he had to say Hi to the Alpacas.
Then he got to PET the llama!
He saw Sheep Getting sheared.
And tried to feed the sheep.
And Finally, he got to HOLD an Angora Bunny! SOFT!
Yup, that big white Fluff ball is a bunny. Don’t ya just want one? I kind of do. But… NO PETS around here for a while… not even gorgeous fiber producing ones.
And I just know this is the place to share it.
A while back, I entered into the “I made it on my Schacht” 4oth Anniversay contest. I entered with This yarn:

Up Close

Angelfish on BFL
It is 398 Yards of BFL 2 ply yarn, about 3.5 ounces, about a fingering weight yarn.
Well, yesterday I heard back.
I AM A FINALIST!
Yup, you heard it right. That means I have a chance to win! I am so excited!
Now I just need Everybody to cross your fingers for me… because there are lots of lovely lovely yarns that I am competing against.
By my understanding, there are a total of 80 finalists, spanning 4 categories, so in my category (novice spinning) there should be about 20 finalists. Oh, thats not a terrible odds.
I AM SO EXCITED!!!
and so you shall have it. We have been very busy around here lately, after all, it is the summer.
We’ve been to the local pool, and we’ve had picnics in the park, we even ate lunch at the library one day. The kids seem to do better in the heat than I do… I am the most grumpy mommy when its hot.
I’ve been doing lots of spinning and dyeing too. Lots of stitchmarkers have made their way into my etsy shop, and plently more are waiting patiently for their day to shine in the shop.
I’ve got orifice hooks that just are begging for attention.
and did i mention the fibers and yarns?
There are a bunch more photos linked to each of these in my gallery, so feel free clicking around!
And, These are just the stuff I have pictures of. I have a whole bunch of new stuff hanging in the shower to dry.
I’ve also got a whole Jacob fleece from a local farm I’m washing up and I’ll be dyeing at least some of that. I haven’t decided if I want to sell some of it just washed or if I want to dye it all, maybe spin some and sell the yarn… but gee, it is squooshy.
I’m getting all curious about weaving too… I want a rigid heddle loom. I never thought I’d be into weaving, but lately, I have seen too much cool stuff that is woven, and I want to be able to make it.
So, thats today’s Update. Keep your fingers crossed that I’ll remember to update again really soon.
Oh, and I nearly fogot to mention!
My Congo mates and I are gearing up for a big fall event on the congo. We’re taking the rest of august off from stocking, and we’ll be re-opening with a giant stocking, lots of free for shipping drawings, and several new vendors on the second Tuesday of September! Don’t forget to check us out!
First things first. I am putting out a request for prayers. There is a Mama on one of the boards I frequent who is in a very bad situation. She went into labor yesterday with her 9th child, and passed out. She was taken to hospital and diagnosed to have AFE, of amniotic fetal embolism, which is rare but extremely deadly, and not preventable. They lost their baby, and her life is hanging in teh balance. she may die, she may never recover if she survives… everything is in the air right now. Lets say a prayer, or have a quiet moment for her. If you are not religious, then at least offer her up form warm healing feelings and some hope.

And, on a more happy note, lets get back to yarn everyday. I won;t post too many today, but I will say that the challenge is chugging along, I have not missed a day, so there will be lots more yarn to come.
June 7, Spun up some Targhee… I love targhee wool. too bad its so hard to find.

June 8, I drafted out more targhee, but didn’t actually spin it. luckily, drafting out the fibers counts as part of creating yarn. I should have gotten a pic, but alas, I didn’t.
June 9, Dyed some domestic merino. here is “Juicy”

June 10, more targhee

June 11, finished plying the targhee

Thats enough for now. in my next post, I’ll tell you all about my new van.
for now, TTFN
